Source of Smoothness: Minas Gerais

Here at Pisgah Coffee Roasters, we are fortunate to have a direct relationship with the farmers who grow and harvest our main line of beans. Our fan favorites - Parkway, Dupont, Squirrely, Shining Rock, Ridgeline, and Balsam - are all roasted with beans from our farm in Brazil: single origin, 100% Arabica, never blended. Last week, our owner and roaster Jotham visited the farm and his home land, and returned with a brain even of even fuller coffee knowledge (who knew that was possible?!).

Jotham and Jonathan took part in a cupping course and slurped some sweet Brazilian beans with professional tasters, or "Q Graders." Following is a fascinating highly-rated report of a micro-lot we received. It's amazing to see all of the various aspects that go into evaluating a cup of coffee! You can see that this particular lot was rewarded quite a full and balanced web, in blue below.

One of the many things that sets us apart from other micro-roasters is the region where our beans are grown. Let's take a walk through the rich lands of southeastern Brazil and learn a bit about Minas Gerais:

Minas Gerais is a state in the north of Southeastern Brazil with an area of 226,460 square miles - larger than Metropolitan France! It ranks as the second most populous, third by GDP, and fourth largest by area in the country.

The landscape of the State is marked by mountains, valleys, and large areas of fertile lands. The west of Minas Gerais is composed of a particular type of savanna, known as the Cerrado, one of the principal coffee-growing areas of Brazil. Renowned for its premiere weather, altitude, and soil quality, it provides some of the world's finest Arabica coffee beans.

We are proud to import our smooth, low acidic beans directly from this old family farm. Join us for Roastery Tours or come in and have a taste of the heart of Brazil!
